Dutch still life composition with autumn vegetables, 2019, Photographer Olga Kulakova

When I started this project, my aim was to capture the rustic yet grandiose vibe of Dutch still life photography through my lens. Everyday things and symbolism combined in artistic galore, if I can say so myself.
There is a mood in these images; a mood of darkness and of laughter, of waiting and of waking up into worldly comfort.
If you look at the color scheme, you will see moody greys, warm browns, warmers mustards, a peck of blue here, and a muted rainbow representing opulence there.
Abundance and scarcity reside side by side in my clicks, just as it does in real life.
This project comes from a place of deep respect and understanding of Dutch still-life masters as Jan Davidsz, Pieter Claesz and Willem Heda.
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I will never even try to imitate such period pieces.
However, I really feel that through my camera, I can capture the true essence of those, and in this project, I have tried to do just that.
